The Winter club challenge has started. How many miles can you paddle this winter? Add your miles to our club chart. In the picture Jess, Mike and Nigel have just over 4 miles to go on their way back from Hawkesbury Junction.
This one is even older from 1949. Note the buses travelling in pairs, even then. We wondered where the picture was taken from?
Thanks to Bob Nash for supplying this picture of paddlers meeting the Lord Mayor in 1962, at the basin.
A couple of pictures from a sunny day at Wyken Basin and a quick paddle to Sutton Stop.
In August paddlers took some boats up to Wyken basin so that Coventry Canal Society members could have a go at canoeing during their ‘At Home Day’. A SUP sneaked in their too!
The club held a British Canoeing Rio Starter event on 03 September.
Paddlers did a short timed sprint from Bridge 1 back to the club. After a rest they completed a timed run on our mini slalom. The times of each part were added to come up with the results. The slalom boat proved a hit. Two SUP’s did the slalom course!
Mercia Canoe Club helped Cardinal Wiseman School raise funds with students completing a sponsored paddle for the Malawi Trust:
The group set off from the Club and made their way out to the Navigation Bridge before hot chocolate and the use of the MacDonalds facilities at Gallagher Retail Park over the road. This also coincided with closure of the footpath for further works. The bank support had to be directed across the City to meet us at the coiled snake pocket park off Harnall Lane. It was a good paddle for all as most had little previous paddling experience.
