I’ve just uploaded the race details and entry form for this year’s Avon Descent, which takes place on Sunday November 3rd, so now is a good time to remind club members that their help will be needed to ensure the event runs smoothly!
I’ve added a page reminding key holders of their responsibilities (also available from the top menu under “About Us”). This also gives a link to the current rota in PDF format, in case you lose the one you were emailed. I’ve added the duty members to the calendar entries for open sessions, so hovering the cursor over the entry will show you who should be on duty that day (but not on tablets or smart phones. Sorry about that!).
The full results are now available to download from the Avon Descent page.
There are also a few pictures, and some video from Stratford weir.
If anyone has their own pictures / videos / race reports they wish to share, please let the webmaster know via the contact page.
I’ve updated the Avon Descent Page with a link to the race details and entry form for this year’s event, which takes place on Sunday November 4th. As usual, we’ll be needing help from club members to run the event, so make a note in your diaries!
Update (6th October): I’ve had to amend the entry form. The BCU Marathon Racing Committee rules have changed, and event tickets (for non-BCU members only) now cost £5. Sorry about that.
I’ve added a page to tell you who the people who run the club are, and what they do. This also appears in the drop-down menu under “About us”
Mike and Laurence will be starting the 125 mile Devizes to Westminster Race at approximately 10:30 on Saturday morning, aiming to reach the end at around 07:00 on Sunday morning after a gruelling non-stop paddle.
Their race number is 309, and you can follow their progress online.
Update: They set off from Devizes at 10:44:39
Final Update (Sunday morning): Sadly, Mike and Laurence had to retire from the race at Boulter’s lock, Maidenhead. A wrist injury incurred by Mike (and later, also by Laurence) meant that they were losing too much time over their schedule to make it to the tidal section of the river in time to catch the tide. It was a valiant effort, and they pressed on as far as they could despite their obvious discomfort.
Six of us (I think!) will be chasing them down the river in three cars, feeding and watering them.
They have decided (at the last minute!) to race for charity, in support of the Royal National Institute of Blind People. You can, if you wish, sponsor them by visiting this page.
